The Godavari Maha Pushkaram festival was celebrated
in Yanam for 12 days from 14.07.2015 to 25.07.2015. This
festival is famous for the Godavari riparian states like
Maharastra, Telangana, Andhrapradesh and the Yanam region of
Puducherry. About 10 lakh devotees participated in the by
taking holy dip in the river at Pushkar Ghats, offered
prayers in the temples and conducted pindapradhan rituals in
Yanam. In this connection, elaborate Police arrangements
were made to regulate traffic, vehicle parking, Crowd
control, free movement of devotees, prevention of
congestion, stampede, keeping watch over anti social
elements, etc.
During
the festival, Police worked tirelessly and with utmost
dedication to ensure that no untoward incident like stampede
occurs. The Yanam Police had maintained optimum crowd
replacement rate at the narrow Pushkar ghats by deploying
men to continuously caution the devotees on PA system and
with Megaphones. A Police Outpost was set up near the
Pushkar ghats which proved very useful to the devotees for
all kinds of assistance round the clock. During the festival
days, the outpost at Pushkar ghat helped the people to
reunite missing children and persons, with to their
families. Number of lost articles were returned to the
concerned devotees by the Police and were provided advisory
to pilgrims with utmost courtesy. Yanam Police had also
used NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, Civilians and School and
College students to assist Police in crowd management.
Flexible human chains were placed inside the Ghat area in
place of fixed physical barricades, to provide twin purpose
of free space and assistance to the devotees.
The
Yanam Police received immense appreciation for their
selfless hard work and excellent arrangements, from the
devotees, general public of Yanam, Media, Political wings
and service organisations including the authorities of
neighbouring state Andhrapradesh.
