INTRODUCTION

 

           Dog Squad is in existence since 12.06.1985 as per G.O. Ms.No.58, dated 10.05.1984.  Initially there were two dogs Pithol and Noray.  Subsequently, six more dogs were procured from 1988 to 2000.  Out of theses 13 dogs, eight were disposed off either by auction or died due to natural cause and the remaining five are still in the Dog Kennel. The Dog Squad of Puducherry Police is functioning from 12-06-1985 under the control of Supdt. of Police(CID), Puducherry.  The following nine dogs are available in the Dog Squad as on date:

 

 

TOPOGRAPHY

 

(A)        PUDUCHERRY:

 

          It is situated at Gorimedu, between Police Training School and PCR Cell about 6 Kms from Police Head Quarter in West Direction.  It is functioning in the Government building.

 

(B)         KARAIKAL:   

     

          It is functioning in one of the residential Police Quarters at Neravy Police Station, Karaikal about 135 Kms from Puducherry and about 10 Kmas from the Office of the SSP (Karaikal) dedicated dog kennel to be constructed at Karaikal at the identified please near Arasalar Bridge, Keelaoodudarai about 4 Kms from the Office of the SSP (Karaikal).

 

INFRASTRUCTURE:

          It has six kennel, 2 channeled row for pups bounded with snack pit.  It has its own grand Kitchen and Bathroom for the dogs.  Ground is builted  with obstacles such as hurdles agilities, bridge sample Explosive substances (For training).

 

BRIEF ON DOGS:

 

          Dogs are being purchased against the disposal of the existing dogs in general and to suit the need.  The squad was initial functioning with a standard strength of 2 dogs till 1988 then raised to 3 dogs till 1993 and thereafter 5 dogs since 1993 as per Puducherry Region.  One dog at Karaikal since 2004 and now one more dog is allotted but yet to be sent.

            There is no specific sanctions strength. To cater the need, the willing Police personnel was diverted as temporally strength for training along with the dogs purchased.  Since 1983, so far 16 Pc’s were diverted to dog squad.  Out of it 4 PC’s where working at Karaikal and one Police Constable got promoted as Head Constable on regular seniority.  The entire strength is attached with dog squad to serve the purpose. Sanctioned strength proposed is pending with government.

  

HEALTH OF DOG:

            Periodical treatment is being given to the dog at Veterinary hospital, Pondicherry and veterinary collage at Mettupalayam. All the six dogs are in good condition.

 

EXPENDITURE:

            Permanent Advance of Rs.2, 000/- is available with the office of the SP(CID), which is being used to meet out the expenses incurring towards the purchase of medicines and other items for the police Dogs. The above is as per GO. No. 84 dated 12.12.1989.
