      The Police Radio Branch, Puducherry was established in the year 1964 with HF link between Karaikal and Puducherry. Later the HF network was expanded to Mahe and Yanam regions in the year 1971 and 1972 respectively. Subsequently during the year 1968 VHF communication was introduced for local communication. 

           Puducherry region is bifurcated by North, South & Rural region apart from other Units inclusive of Special Branch & Sigma Units etc. All are connected with Control Room by VHF network through repeater at D' Nagar Kalapet and Villianoor to boost up the signal.

NORTH REGION:  

              Wireless sets installed in North Region are 46 Static sets, 46 Mobiles, 110 Walkie Talkies

            North region is having 46 static's and 46 Mobiles functioning through VHF repeater 30 meters Tower of BSNL on trial basis located at D' Nagar.  Repeater at University Kalapet is used to connect the weak signal of Mobile / Static of Kalapet area with CCR.  All GO's  were issued with W/T set Semi-Duplex and Simplex mode

SOUTH REGION: 

              Wireless sets installed in South Region are 8 Static sets, 10 Mobiles and 37 Walkie Talkies

            South region is having 8 static's and 10 mobiles functioning through VHF repeater at Villianur which is connected with CCR, Puducherry.  Walkie Talkie sets are functioning in simplex mode.

RURAL REGION: 

             Wireless sets installed in South Region are12Static sets, 13 Mobiles,  57 Walkie Talkies      

            Rural region is having 12 static's and 13 mobiles functioning through VHF repeater at Villianur which is connected with CCR, Puducherry.  Walkie Talkie sets are functioning in simplex mode.

TRAFFIC, PUDUCHERRY REGION:  

             43 Walkie Talkie sets for Traffic, Puducherry and 16 Walkie Talkie sets for Traffic (South & Rural) have been distributed for their communication. 43 sets are functioning in Semi-Duplex mode through the Repeater at D.Nagar, Puducherry and 16 sets functioning for South / Rural region in simplex mode.           

SPECIAL BRANCH AND SIGMA, PUDUCHERRY REGION

             20 Walkie Talkie sets for SB and 5 Walkie Talkie set to SIGMA have been distributed for their communication.

KARAIKAL REGION

             Karaikal region is having 13 static stations and all are connected by VHF network.. In addition to this 20 mobiles, 56 Walkie Talkie sets have been provided and connected with the control room at Karaikal. This communication is working through repeater at Thirunallar with 30 meter Tower.  One workshop is functioning to carry out the repair/maintenance of all wireless sets and equipments.

MAHE REGION

             Mahe region is having 5 static stations and 8 mobiles and connected with one Repeater. In addition to this 20 Walkie-Talkie sets are also functioning at Mahe.  This communication is working through repeater at MGGA College at Chalkara.  All these wireless sets are maintained by one Workshop at Mahe.

YANAM REGION

             Yanam region is having one static and two mobiles connected by VHF network. 10 Walkie Talkie sets are also functioning.  This communication is working through repeater with 80 feet Tower at Yanam.

 RADIO WORKSHOP

             Puducherry region is functioning with two Radio Workshops

            1. At CCR Puducherry to look after all mobiles, static's in North Region (Grand Bazaar, Kalapet , Orleanpet circles) including Traffic Net work, Puducherry

           2. At D’ Nagar to look after all static stations, mobiles in South region (Villianur, D’ Nagar & Mudaliarpet circles) and Rural region (Nettapakkam, Thirukkanur and Bahour circles) including Traffic of South / Rural region.

             Multi-Voice logger has been installed at the Control station, D’Nagar, Gorimedu to record the important VHF Communication relating to Puducherry regions during Law & Order duties inclusive of VVIP & VIP visits / Bundh and during National functions Etc.

 HF Communication  / TELECOMMUNICATION

             Telecommunication Centers are functioning at Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, Yanam to connect by Wireless on HF network with BEST equipments for Data communication.  The outlying regions are connected with HQ Puducherry through this HF Communication Network and information messages are transmitted / received through this network.

P O L N E T

            Modernization of Police Wireless & Communication network was titled as POLNET and implemented by DCPW through M/s BEL, Gaziabad.  In this system all Police Stations in India inclusive of Para Military, NCRB, SCRB, Police HQ at State and District will be connected through satellite facilitating Voice, Data, Fax facility .  Six V-SAT / MART (BSU) and 31 MART (RSU) were recommended by the DCPW, MHA, New Delhi for the UT of Puducherry. 

              For the POLNET scheme an amount of Rs. 72,33,821/- has been paid to the DCPW in installments from 2003 to 2007.  All 6 V-SAT sites were with MART (BSU) and MART (RSU) at all Police Stations have been installed by M/S. BEL, Gaziabad during the year 2005.  DATA, FAX and Voice are being passed to Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam through POLNET and vise a versa from the outlying regions for smooth communication.
