FUNCTIONING AND ACTIVITIES

MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
The Society grants Merit Scholarships to the wards of the members,
who secure more than 50% marks, at the rate
of Rs.150/-
per month. A total no. of 70 merit scholarships are granted per
year. Further, the society grant
Rs.250/-
per month to the wards of the Police personnel, who undergo
professional courses such as M.B.B.S., Engineering, CA/Law, MBA,
etc.

SPECIAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
Special Merit Scholarship is granted to the wards of Police
personnel doing professional courses, such as
MBBS., Engineering,
CA, Law, Architect etc. at the rate of Rs.250/-
per month.

CASH AWARDS
Two awards are given annually to those wards of the Police Personnel
who secure highest percentage of marks at two levels, one at SSLS/Metric
and another at Higher Secondary Level

SSLC 3ST Prize –Rs.2000/-
HSC 1st Prize – Rs. 2000/-

NON PENSIONED WIDOW GRANT
Widows of Police Personnel, who are not entitled to Pensioners
benefits, are given Rs.1500/-
per month. Currently,
three
such widows are getting this benefit every month.
(4) SPECTACLE GRANTS
The members are eligible for a grant of
Rs.1000/-
as Spectacle Grant twice during their service

DEATH GRANTS
Rs.5,000/- will be given at the time of funeral of the Police
Personnel who died while in service as non-recoverable grant.
(6) INCENTIVE FOR FAMILY PLANNING GRANT
A Grant of Rs.200/- is given to a member of the force who or whose
wife has undergone family planning operation subject to the
condition that he/she should not have more than two children. This
benefit is extended by the Society apart from the incentives being
given by the government.

GRANT OF LOANS
The members are granted loans for various purposes like self
marriage, ward’s marriage, pilgrimage, ear boring ceremony, for
purchasing School Books/Notebooks, puberty ceremony, defray of
medical expenses, and house repairs from the PPWS fund at the rate
of
5%
interest. The repayment of the above loans will be in ten equal
monthly installments.

RETIRING PERSONNEL
Whenever any member of the force attains Superannuation
and goes on retirement, a Send Off is given in appreciation of his
long service and a lump sum grant of
Rs. 20,000/-
is given to him. The expenditure is met from the monthly
subscription paid by the members.
(9) COMMUNITY HALL
A Police Community Hall was constructed at Gorimedu
Police Complex and is functioning since 11.07.92. This hall is
given on 50% concession rates to the Police Personnel and Home
Guards for marriage and other celebrations of the family. The
rental is as detailed below:

GROUP PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE SCHEME
This Scheme was started in March 1995 when the Hon’ble Chief
Minister of Puducherry sanctioned a grant of Rs.20.00 lakhs to the
Society in three instalments. The amount has been deposited in a
bank and its annual interest is utilized to pay premium for the
Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme which cover all ranks of
Puducherry Police. As per this Scheme, whoever, being the members
of PPWS, dies in an accident while on duty or in service will be
benefited. The insured amount to the ranks from Constables to
Inspector is Rupees 1 lakh and the amount insured to the ranks from
SP to I.G.P. is Rupees 5 lakhs.

Puducherry police savings linked group insurance scheme
The General Body meeting of the PPWS held on 9.2.2006 discussed
about the proposal of the Special Group Insurance - cum - Savings
scheme for the members of Puducherry Police developed by
Bascarane, Inspector of Police in liaise with various Insurance
Companies. Best scheme negotiated and agreed by LIC of India.
As per the scheme,
A. The members of Puducherry Police Welfare Society are
covered under the Savings Linked Group Insurance.
B. Insurance covers death due to suicide and natural
B. Family of a deceased police personnel will be benefited in
the event of his death even due to natural causes.
The meeting unanimously resolved to adopt the scheme by recovering
the premium from the pay of each member along with PPWS
subscription amount. Under the scheme, the lower subordinates will
get a coverage of Rs.1.00 lakh, upper subordinates Rs.2.00 lakhs and
the Gazetted Officers Rs.3.00 lakhs. The monthly subscription will
be Rs.100/-, Rs.200/- and Rs.300/- respectively out of which 65%
will go to the savings fund. There is also option for Double
Accident Benefit by paying an additional Rs.6.25 for each
Rs.100/-. In that case, a legal heir of the individual who died in
accident will get double the sum for which he is insured. The
Scheme was launched on 21.10.2006 and after its implementation, a
total no. of 21 other ranks and one Sub Inspector died due to
natural causes like illness and accidents, and their families
received the compensation amount ranging from Rs.1.00 lakh to
Rs.4.00 lakh.

SELF - EMPLOYMENT TRAINING
SCHEME in association with INDIAN BANK
Self
employment training is being imported to Police wards in
Tailoring, Jewel Making, Painting etc with the assistance of
Indian Bank and other NGO. So far 2 batch training is completed on
the direct interaction by Mrs Kiren Gautam w/o Sunil Kumar Gautam
IPS.
(a) TAILORING UNIT
Members, mostly the wives and daughters of the Police personnel
are rendering their services in the Tailoring Unit of “ Puducherry
Police Family Welfare Society”. The Tailoring Unit undertakes
stitching of uniforms of the Police personnel/Home Guards.
Periodical training is also given to them.
The rates of stitching charges in respect of police and Home Guards
uniform are as follows:

Out of the stitching charges, 70% is given to the ladies attending
the stitching work and the remaining 30% is credited to the account
of the Tailoring Centre.
TAILORING CLASSES
The Tailoring Unit of Puducherry Police arranged tailoring classes
to the families of police personnel through INDISETI, in two batches
of 35 each. In all 70 ladies were trained by INDIESTI and
certificates were awarded to them. Mrs. Kiran Gautam Inaugurated the
tailoring classes and distributed certificates on completion of 21
days training course.
CRECHE
On 02.09.2016 a Creche styled as "Rainbow House" was inaugurated for
the kids of Police personnel at Gorimedu Police complex Puducherry
with the assistance of Social Welfare Department. Mrs. Kiran Gautam
inaugurated the "Rainbow House". Total 30 children are enrolled in
this Play School. The staff of Social Welfare Department, Puducherry
are assisting in managing this school.
COMPETITIONS
Puducherry Police Welfare Society conducted Rangoli competition,
Drawing Competition, Singing competition and Poetry Competition to
the Wards of the Police personnel as apart of Diwali Celebrations
from 26th to 28th October 2016. Shri. S. K. Gautam, IPS, Director
General of Police, Puducherry and Mrs. Kiran Gautam, distributed
prizes to the winners of various competitions.
CULTURAL PROGRAMME
On 28.12.2016, a cultural programme was organized at Police Training
School, Puducherry for the police families, which was attended by
Shri: S.K. Gautam, IPS the DGP, Puducherry and Mrs. Kiran Gautam.
About 500 family members participated in the cultural programme.
JEWEL MAKING COURSE
In the month of January 2017 , a course on Jewel Making was
conducted for the family members of Police personnel in Police
Training School, wherein 40 ladies were trained. The 10 days course
was conducted by 1NDISKTI. Shri, A. K. Gawas, IPS, SSP(HQ)
inaugurated the course and Mrs. Kiran Gautam distributed the Course
Completion certificates to the trainees.
FOOD PROCESSING COURSE
One Week Course on Food Processing (Pickle, Jam, Juice making) was
conducted from 14.04.2017 to 20.04.2017 for the family members of
the police personnel. This training was imparted by staff of the
Krishi Vithian Kendra, Iyyankuttipalayam, Puducherry, wherein 32
family members attended.
GYMNASIUM
A well furnished Gymnasium with latest equipments was thrown open to
the police personnel. The Gymnasium is open from 06.00 hrs to 21.00
hrs. The slot between 18.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs has been reserved for
police families.
YOGA CLASSES
Regular Yoga classes for police personnel are being organized on the
1st floor of Gymnasium. The Police families are permitted to attend
Yoga classes on Saturdays & Sundays.
