INTRODUCTION

 

            Dog Squad was created during 12.06.1983 vide G.O. Ms. No. 37 dt. 10.05.1983. This unit is functioning under the control of Inspector of Police, Crime Records Bureau under the supervision of SP (CID) @ Director CRB.  It was inaugurated on 12.06.1985 on complete of training of the dog period. 

 

LOCATION:

 

A.  PUDUCHERRY: It is situated at Gorimedu, between Police Training School and Chief Stores about 6 Kms from Police Head Quarter in West Direction.  It is functioning in the Government building.

 

B.  KARAIKAL:  It is functioning in Dog kennel at Keelaodudarai, Karaikal about 135 Kms from Puducherry and about 4 Kms from the Office of the SSP (Karaikal).

 

INFRASTRUCTURE:

          It has ten kennel, 2 channeled row for pups bounded with snack pit.  It has its own grand Kitchen and Bathroom for the dogs.  Ground is built with obstacles such as hurdles agilities, bridge sample Explosive substances (For training).

BRIEF ON DOGS:

          Dogs are being purchased against the disposal of the existing dogs in general and to suit the need.  The squad was initial functioning with a standard strength of 2 dogs till 1988 then raised to 3 dogs till 1993 and thereafter 5 dogs since 1993 as per Puducherry Region. Two dogs at Karaikal since 2004.

Since 1983, there is no specific sanctions strength however to cater need, the willing Police personnel was diverted from PAP as temporally strength for the purpose of deputing Police personnel for training along with the dogs purchased.
