TOPOGRAPHY

The Food Cell Police Station Karaikal is functioning since 1975.  The Food Cell Police Station functioned at various rented buildings in Karaikal Town area.  At present, the said police station is functioning at No.62, upstairs 7th Cross. M.M.G Nagar, Karaikal in a Rented Building at a distance of  about 2 km away from town.  The said building belongs to one.  T. Jayraman age 53 Yrs S/O Thangavelu, The Food Cell Police Station is functioning at  NO.62, Upstairs M.M.G Nagar, Karaikal since 15.06.1998 on a monthly rent of Rs.2000/- (Two thousand only). The border areas of Poovam 12 KMs northern side, the Vanjore border 13 KMs in southern side, the Ambagarathur border 15 KMs westerns side, the Annavasal Border 13 KMS and  Nallathur border 16 KMs  western side located from Food Cell Police Station, Karaikal. On 24.06.2003 Tahsilder Taluk Office, Karaikal handed over the land in TS No. 2/7 ward B.  Block 4 with an extent of  OOHOBA26 Ca (About 8800 Sq Ft) at Thalatheru Revenue Village, Karaikal for the construction of Food Cell Police Station, Karaikal and staff quarters and on 02.12.2003 the said land was handed over to PWD for the construction of Food Cell PS with staff quarters.

FUNCTIONING OF FOOD CELL POLICE STATION, KARAIKAL

              The Food Cell Police Station in Karaikal was created during the year 1975.  The Food Cell function as unit of the Civil supplies directorate under the complete administrative control of the Direction of Civil supplies, Puducherry and Dy. Director of     Civil supplies and consumer affairs at Karaikal. 

            The Food Cell Police Station  in Karaikal consisting of 1, Inspector of Police, One  Head Constables and  Six Police Constables this police station  is functioning under the supervision  of  Superintendent of Police, Food Cell, Located at Puducherry at present there is One vacancy  of  Head Constable in this Police Station. 

          The Food Cell will responsible for collecting intelligence prevention, detection and prosecution of Offences under Essential commodities Act 1955, Besides the Food Cell will also attend to such functions as may be assigned by the Dy. Director Civil Supplies from time to time like assisting the squad section in conducting raids, Checking, Bandobust duties, patrolling inspection and smooth functioning of public destitution system etc., 

Inspection of various kinds have been performed by the officers on various aspects like. 

i)     Whether the fair price shop, Kerosene outlets are being opened in official hours as prescribed.

ii)    Whether price boards  exhibited and accounts as maintained  in F.P.S /Kerosene outlets, etc.,  

DETECTION AND PROSECUTIONS

Detections

Various complaints have been received from public or from the Government agencies or in the form of petition in Food Cell Police Station.  Based on such complaints the officers conduct inspection and detect the offence if any.  When the offences are detected cases are being booked under Essential Commodities Act and investigation is also subsequently taken, Sue-Motto cases are also booked based on the inspections and raids conducted by the officers.

INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION

Investigation and prosecution are conducted by the officers of the Food Cell by the collecting  evidence examination  of witnesses and conducting  persecution before the courts

ASSISTING THE CIVIL SUPPLIES DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS

Whenever the squad conducts inspection, Raids, Checking etc., Food Cell Police associate and assist them.  

SPECIAL TASK

i) Food Cell Police  used to perform bandobust duties while Deepavali and Pongal bazaars during the  natural  Calamities  like Cyclone and floods and Food Cell ensures proper public Distribution System during bundh calls called by lorry owners/Drivers for o ensuring  proper transport of Essential  Commodities from one place to other places, Food Cell police performs escort duties. 

ii) In additions to the  above Food Cell  perform station sentry duties, Guarding of  Govt. and  case properties and escorting  and accused persons warrants/Processes duties etc.,
