TOPOGRAPHY
Kottucherry Police Station is situated on the South West Corner
of the Junction Porayar – Nagapattinam road and Kottucherry –
Nedungadu Road . This Police Station Limits about 2573 Hectors
is having the borders as Porayar (Tamil Nadu) Police Station
limits on the Northern side Nedungadu Police Station on the
western side and Karaikal Town Police Station on the southern
side. The Bay of Bengal on the Eastern
Kottucherry the name has come from the episode that Vinayaga put
a line (kodu) on the path of the Saiva Saint Thiru.
Gnanasambandar demanding him to sing a song on Vinayaka, and the
saint obeyed it. Therefore this village thereafter has been
called as Kottucherry.
Kottucherry is one of the 6 commune
Panchayath in Karaikal region. Each commune one Police Post was
the Policy of French regime. As such this Police Station is
functioning from French regime. Now this Police Station
functioning its own building. It was inaugurated on 4th
June 1990.
Adjoining this PS the residential
quarters of SHO is available. Residential quarters for 2 Hcs and
8 PCs are also available at Kamaraj Salai, Kottucherry. Some
of the Places in Karaikal are related to the Epics Mahabaratha
and Ramayana of which Thiruvettakudy is village lying in
Kottucherry PS limits where Arujuna while penancing for getting
“Pasupath Asthira” from Lord Sivan, fought with him to get the
title who killed the pig”. Annual Festival usually will be
celebrated during the Month of February
