Vehicle & Road Safety

Reduce the risk of theft, loss and roadside incidents with a few simple precautions.

🚗

About Safety of Your Vehicle

Parking, keys, valuables and personal safety

  1. Lock all doors and close all windows whenever you leave your vehicle, even for a short time.
  2. Use the vehicle's alarm, immobiliser or other manufacturer-recommended anti-theft features.
  3. At night, prefer well-lit, populated and authorised parking areas.
  4. Avoid leaving bags, laptops, cash, documents or other valuables visible inside the vehicle.
  5. Park carefully, note the location and keep your keys secure.
  6. Never leave the engine running in an unattended vehicle or leave children or vulnerable persons alone inside.
  7. Do not place handbags, parcels or valuables on the roof or bonnet while opening the vehicle.
  8. Keep vehicle registration, insurance and other important documents secure; avoid leaving originals unattended in the vehicle.
  9. Before entering or leaving your vehicle, observe your surroundings, particularly in isolated areas.
  10. For road safety, wear a helmet/seat belt, obey speed limits and never use a mobile phone while driving.
🔑

Vehicle Theft Prevention

Small checks can prevent major loss

  1. Do not hand your vehicle keys to unknown persons or leave spare keys in obvious locations.
  2. Use secure parking and avoid leaving two-wheelers in isolated locations for long periods.
  3. Record your vehicle registration number and keep a copy of important vehicle details safely.
  4. Never share your vehicle documents, OTPs or financial details with unknown callers claiming to be officials.
  5. If your vehicle is stolen, report it to the police immediately and provide the registration number, make, model and identifying details.
Protect your family

Safety at Home & in Your Neighbourhood

Good locks, awareness and timely information can make homes and communities safer.

🏠

Your Safety at Home

Secure your home, family and valuables

  1. Keep doors and accessible windows securely locked, especially when everyone is asleep or away.
  2. Use adequate outdoor lighting around entrances, parking areas and other vulnerable points.
  3. Keep high-value jewellery, cash and important documents in a secure location; consider a bank locker for valuables where appropriate.
  4. Do not disclose your travel plans, valuables or household security arrangements to strangers.
  5. Verify domestic workers, drivers, repair personnel and other service providers through reliable references where appropriate.
  6. Be cautious of unknown salespersons, delivery personnel, contractors and callers seeking access to your home.
  7. Consider suitable security measures such as door viewers, alarms and CCTV, while respecting privacy and applicable law.
  8. Keep important police and emergency numbers readily available to family members.
  9. Do not allow children to share your home address, passwords or family information with strangers online.
  10. Inform the police promptly if you notice suspicious activity or an immediate threat.
👥

Neighbourhood Safety

Community awareness helps prevent crime

  1. Know your neighbours and maintain a culture of mutual assistance.
  2. Report suspicious persons, vehicles or activity through the appropriate police channel rather than confronting a suspect.
  3. Keep apartment entrances, parking areas and common spaces adequately lit.
  4. Do not circulate unverified crime alerts or rumours on WhatsApp and social media.
  5. When sharing CCTV footage with authorities, preserve the original recording and note the date and time.
  6. Senior citizens living alone should keep trusted family members or neighbours informed of emergencies and important contacts.
When crime occurs

What You Should Do

Prompt reporting and preservation of evidence can assist police in taking effective action.

🚨

In Case of Occurrence of Crime

Report quickly • preserve evidence • cooperate

  1. For an emergency or crime in progress, contact the police immediately through 112.
  2. Do not disturb, clean or rearrange the scene unless necessary to protect life or prevent further danger.
  3. Preserve photographs, videos, messages, documents and other relevant evidence without altering the originals.
  4. Provide police with accurate information about what happened, when and where it occurred.
  5. If you saw a suspect, share only details you actually observed, such as clothing, appearance, vehicle or direction of travel.
  6. If safe to do so, note the registration number or identifying details of a vehicle involved.
  7. Do not confront, chase or attempt to punish a suspected offender yourself.
  8. Do not exaggerate or circulate unverified allegations; inaccurate information can affect an investigation.
  9. Follow the instructions of investigating officers and provide assistance or statements when lawfully required.
🧾

Preserve Useful Evidence

What to keep ready for police

  1. Keep original photographs, videos and CCTV recordings whenever possible.
  2. Note the date, time, location and sequence of events while the details are fresh.
  3. For online incidents, preserve URLs, phone numbers, email addresses, account names and transaction details.
  4. Do not delete suspicious messages, emails or call records before reporting.
  5. Never edit screenshots or recordings in a way that removes important context.
For businesses

Commercial Establishments

Strengthen physical security, cash-handling practices and staff awareness.

🏪

Business Security

Protect staff, customers, premises and assets

  1. Minimise the amount of cash kept on the premises and avoid discussing cash movements publicly.
  2. Use reputable security service providers and ensure security staff receive clear instructions.
  3. Use secure access controls and, where suitable, central locking and intrusion alarm systems.
  4. Install CCTV at appropriate locations and ensure recordings are securely stored for a reasonable retention period.
  5. Keep entrances, exits, cash counters and parking areas adequately illuminated.
  6. Use safe procedures for opening and closing the establishment, including staff working in pairs where appropriate.
  7. Remain alert to unusual behaviour, especially near closing time, without profiling or confronting customers.
  8. Review security arrangements periodically and correct gaps identified during internal checks.
  9. Train staff to recognise phishing, impersonation, fake payment confirmations and other cyber-enabled frauds.
  10. Immediately report serious threats, thefts, frauds or suspicious activity to the police.
💳

Digital Payment Safety

Protect your business from online fraud

  1. Never share OTP, UPI PIN, CVV, passwords or banking credentials with anyone.
  2. Remember: receiving money through UPI normally does not require entering a UPI PIN.
  3. Verify payment in your bank account or payment app rather than relying only on a screenshot or SMS.
  4. Do not install unknown APKs or remote-access applications at the request of callers.
  5. Verify supplier, customer and employee requests for urgent bank-account changes through an independent channel.
  6. Use strong passwords, multi-factor authentication and updated security software for business accounts.
